AISI 316L stainless steel for outdoor lighting: why prefer it?

AISI 316L stainless steel for outdoor lighting: why prefer it?

The attention paid to the lighting design of outdoor and wet locations is always subordinate to the choice of durable as well as high-performance and scenic luminaires: in order to make the environment more comfortable and enjoyable.

AISI 316L stainless steel is a stainless steel alloy whose characteristics make it the perfect material for different types of outdoor and wet areas.

Thanks to these characteristics of resistance, luminaires made of AISI 316L stainless steel are ideal for being installed in various types of outdoor and wet environments: from the most classic to those known to be more complicated. They are therefore perfect for swimming pools, spas, but also for more aggressive environments such as those subject to the action of saltiness: notoriously resistant up to 10km from the sea coast.

AISI 361L stainless steel has two peculiarities in its composition: the first is that it contains Molybdenum, a material that is very resistant to chemical corrosion; the second is that it is composed of Nickel in greater quantities than most stainless steels, which makes it extremely resistant to corrosion in aggressive environments such as marine ones.

In addition, AISI 316L stainless steel is a very poor heat conductor: it conducts 4 times less heat than standard steel and even 12 times less than aluminium. This is the reason why AISI 316L stainless steel products are perfect for lighting paths at the edge of swimming pools.

The combination of chromium-nickel-molybdenum and the low carbon content (the L in the acronym stands for “Low Carbon”) allows AISI 316L stainless steel to resist even the action of chlorides.

Egoluce products made of AISI 316L steel do not only offer high performance from a technical and resistance point of view, but they also allow to create a comfortable, suggestive and scenic atmosphere to enjoy at best all outdoor spaces subject to humidity.

lighting design for outdoor spaces is essential to create an enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere but the function of light is also to emphasise particular architectural details to make the space more attractive.
Light can enhance volumes and give new life to even the simplest architectural elements such as stairs, walkways, balustrades and handrails. Light becomes an architectural element itself, but without neglecting its emotional character.
