How to efficiently illuminate your wellness space

How to efficiently illuminate your wellness space

In recent years, dedicated wellness space within a house has become a popular design option. With the rise of a trend toward a healthier lifestyle, more and more people are deciding to create a gym area in their home by creating dedicated rooms or carving out a small space in the garage. Optimizing lighting in the training area plays a huge role in creating a motivating and disturbance-free environment. Light is an essential component in training effectively and safely.

Besides the natural light present during the day, it is essential to provide a combination of uniform and warm artificial lights that do not strain the eyes and generate adequate visual comfort while improving mood and concentration during training.

One of the ways to illuminate the fitness area with artificial light is by utilizing several lighting points that indirectly and diffusely illuminate the entire workout area from above and mimic natural light while reducing shadows. Moreover, the lights should be placed high on the ceiling to avoid annoying reflections and glare, keeping the space and walls free for tools or mirrors.

However, in the space dedicated to more relaxing physical activities, such as yoga, one should aim for a softer light that helps relax both body and mind. For this reason, the ideal solution is a dimmable LED light that allows you to choose the intensity depending on the physical activity.

Attractive and convenient solutions to sufficiently illuminate the gym space are recessed lights; however, track-mounted LED spotlights or ceiling lights are good alternatives.

Adding a scenic effect to one’s workout space can be an enjoyable and motivational solution, in that case, suspension lights. Pendant lamps effectively illuminate while adding elegance and visual comfort.

Regarding colour temperature, it is recommended to use lights with a temperature of 5000K to recreate the natural lighting colour for fitness activities. While for yoga, pilates and similar, one should use 2700K or 3000K with dimmable light.
